The COVID-19 pandemic, which gave rise to many radical changes particularly in healthcare, as well as in political, economic, social, cultural and individual life from the beginning of 2020, became a global problem in a very short space of time.

Since 11 March 2020, Turkey has taken serious measures promptly through an effective cooperation with all concerned national and local public and private institutions and bodies to prevent the outbreak from entering and spreading in the country. Union of Municipalities of Turkey together with member municipalities manage this crisis effectively in cooperation with the Government.

The protective and supportive steps started to be taken gradually by the Government at national and local level to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 among citizens, and primarily to stop the virus from spreading. In this crisis period, Turkey has also provided support for more than 80 countries, sending aid and exchanging medical experience.

Turkey successfully continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, so, the number of new cases, deaths and patients in intensive care are gradually decreasing since first week of May[1].
