The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental Euro-Mediterranean organisation which brings together all countries of the European Union and 15 countries of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.

On 12 November 2020, the UfM organised the Trade and Investment Forum on the theme of "Creating employment opportunities in times of COVID-19" and discussed the role of regional cooperation in the face of the crisis. Previously, the UfM had also organised a meeting on the post-pandemic labour landscape, focusing on lessons learned, best practices and ideas for the creation of more resilient labour markets in the framework of its Med4Jobs flagship initiative.

The organisation is launching a high-level conference "Women4Mediterranean" from 16 to 20 November 2020 to further analyse the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on women and girls and to highlight the key role played by women in addressing the pandemic. It also aims to identify what is needed to better value the role of women and foster women’s participation in policy and decision-making to address the pandemic. In this regard, it will organise a webinar on 5 March 2021 during the International Women's Day on "Women in Leadership, towards an equal region in a COVID-19 world”.

The UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, took part in online Slovenia’s Innovation Day 2020 “Symptoms of creativity” on 30 November. The Conference was the occasion to delve into the debate by addressing the critical need to bring in the future culture and creative industries closer to the traditional ones in a win-win scenario, the importance of creativity and innovation being now more evident than ever before to overcome quickly the negative socio-economic effects of COVID-19 crisis.
